Visual Art & Art History

BA in Art History

The Honours BA in Art History is widely recognized for its breadth of offerings and innovative approaches to the study of art. Our faculty are active contributors to their fields and often draw directly on their own research in their teaching. Our curriculum reflects the diversity of our students and emphasizes the relationships between art and its many social contexts, including global cultural exchange. Courses are offered in many areas: Western art and architecture, Canadian art, Asian art, indigenous art of the Americas, historical Canadian art, criticism and museum and gallery studies.

In this video, York MA graduates and current curators Melissa Bennett and Michelle Jacques discuss the role of education, particularly Art History in curating exhibitions. Curation from Canadian Art on Vimeo.
